TAG makes its move with Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra is a pretty chick. A dream date with the actress was recently auctioned off on eBay.com. Thats right, Carmen Electra.... Dream Date.... auction. Who wouldn't go for that? Well it appears the Gillette company is once again showing their mastery of demographics and target markets. The auction, found here, was a campaign stunt by TAG body spray (Axe competitor), by the Gillette Company. All profits went to the National Prostate Cancer Coalition, to the benefit of men everywhere.

Why do I say it was good marketing? Because Tag "gets" its target market, and has payed attention to their desires. I openly admit however, this isn't that hard since their market is mostly young men between the ages of 15 and 20 (or somewhere around there). But there are some other clues as to their doing a good job on this one... Afterall, they successfully posed it as a charity event, probably got the lovely Carmen to join along on the cheap, for charity, successfully staged the event on the internet (a rapid communication medium, perfectly suited to the youth lifestyle), and got their name out with every single page view. Plus some press coverage, such as this article your reading now. Good job Gillette (TAG).

So what did the auction end at? A whopping $407,500.00 Looking at Mrs. Novaro (Electra) I think its obvious this wasn't an act of charity, but rather a fairly well spent pile of money.

I wonder what 15-20 year old had $400K to blow on eBay? A sham bid maybe? We'll see.
